UW coaches saw him in camp last summer and thought about offering then but said they wanted to keep their interest in him as quiet as possible and room finally opened for a scholarship this week. ... The first four-year varsity starter at Lakes since 1963. ... One of three Lakes players to sign with UW. ... Sarkisian said he could play immediately for the Huskies. (Centennial) --- Something of a sleeper after picking up football late, concentrating on basketball until turning out for football as a high school junior. ... Taz Stevenson, S, 6-3, 205 Mililani, Hawaii (Mililani) --- Rushed for 352 yards and four TDs and caught 23 passes for 329 yards and three TDs playing RB and WR as a senior. ... Listed as an athlete by UW but Sarkisian indicated he will start out in the secondary as a safety. Darius Waters, OLB, 6-1 227 Lakewood (Lakes) --- All-State 3A pick as both a defensive lineman and a tight end. ... Also had an offer from Cal but committed to UW last March and never wavered. ... One of three Lakes players on the team alongside Kearse and Potoa'e. ... Sarkisian called him a "physical, tough player'' that will "put his face on you.'' ...

Brent Williams, DE, 6-2, 186 Woodland Hills, Calif. (Taft) --- Some teams were concerned about his weight and UW was his first offer and he accepted it quickly. ... Sarkisian said he thinks Williams will fill out and be able to make the transition to becoming a pass-rushing DE. ... In fact, while school lists him at 186, Sarkisian said he's up to 205 and is "getting to where he needs to get to.'' ... Set a school record with 17 sacks as a junior. ...

Chris Young, LB, 6-1 215 Auburn (Auburn) --- Also a standout RB at Auburn but will start out on defense for the Huskies, which he said he prefers. ... Still has some academic issues to clear up and his ability to enroll may not be known until the summer. ... Another early commit to UW, giving the word last March. ... Was suspended late in the season for an off-field on-campus incident but Huskies didn't waver in keeping their commitment of a scholarship. ...
