UW Get's It's Running Back! Excellent Commitment for 2010 Class
Washington continues to build terrific 2010 class with Deontae Cooper
Four-star running back Deontae Cooper (Perris, Calif./Citrus Hill)
has committed to sign with the Pac 10 Huskies, ESPN's Greg Biggins
reports. Prior to making this decision, Cooper stated he wanted
to visit Nebraska, Arizona State and Fresno State.
"I know I said I wanted to wait but the more I thought about it,
it just seemed like Washington was the best fit for me," he said.
"I talked things over with my dad and my coaches and we looked
at all my options and I don't think I could find a better
situation than Washington."
ESPN's Billy Tucker elaborated on the move, "This is a great
get for the Huskies and first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian
as we feel Cooper is a great fit for Washington's pro-style offense.
A kid who may be falling slightly under the radar, perhaps due
to his lack of great top-end speed and zone-running skill-set,
but feel in the Huskies' system he will line up at tail and
take advantage of his size, downhill strength and burst through
the hole, particularly when he fills out his longer frame."
"More of a one-gear back, but potentially could be a guy who totes
the rock for UW 20 times a game, wears down a defense and get
stronger with carries. Has a very good blend of potential size
and straight-line speed."
Other programs such as Colorado, Stanford, Utah and Arizona
offered the nation's No. 19-rated ball-carrier, who rushed for
2,948 yards and 43 touchdowns as a junior."
